A fleet of 20 boats from 10 different countries sailed in the inaugural World Sailing Class Associations Championship at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, Italy. The YCCS provided excellent conditions for the three-day event, with the Mistral sea breeze arriving from the south-east at around 10 knots each morning, building to around 20 knots during the afternoon, providing a great platform for the teams to battle it out. The championship was organised by World Sailing’s Member National Authorities and Class Associations and was open to all World Sailing-recognised Classes. Racing was held in the J/80, Smeralda 888, Melges 24, Melges 20, GP42, J/70, J/24, SB20, Star and Dragon classes, with the J/70 and SB20 fleets receiving the largest entries of eight and seven boats respectively. The championship was designed to bring together the sailing community, celebrate and promote sailing, and celebrate the great work of Class Associations across the world. The championship was won by the Melges 20 Class Association, with the J/70 Class Association finishing as runners-up. The J/24 Class Association and the GP42 Class Association finished in third and fourth place respectively. The championship was an opportunity for sailors from different nations to compete against each other in a unique and exciting format, and the racing was close and competitive. A total of 54 races were held, with the Melges 20, J/80 and Smeralda 888 fleets completing 10 races each, the GP42 and J/70 fleets completing 9 races each, the J/24 and SB20 fleets completing 8 races each, and the Star and Dragon fleets completing 7 races each. The Melges 20 Class Association were crowned champions after a closely fought battle with the J/70 Class Association, and the GP42 Class Association finished third overall.
