The Reverend William Henry Steward (1821–1898) was an American Protestant Episcopal clergyman. Biography He was born at Georgetown, Washington, D.C., on October 21, 1821. He graduated from Madison University (now Colgate University) in 1841, and from the General Theological Seminary, New York City, in 1844. He was ordained deacon in 1844, and priest in 1845, by Bishop Benjamin Tredwell Onderdonk, and was rector successively of the Church of the Mediator, the Church of the Ascension, and the Church of the Transfiguration, New York City. In 1856 he became rector of the Church of the Advent, Boston. In 1868 he became rector of Trinity Church, New York City, and in 1887 was elected assistant bishop of New York, but declined the honor. He published a few sermons and addresses. He died at Dobbs Ferry, New York, on May 10, 1898. External links * Sermon Delivered by the Rev.
