The Association of Professional Bodyboarders (APB) is the international governing body for professional bodyboarding. History The Association of Professional Bodyboarders (APB) was created in 2003 by a group of professional riders, including Alex Leon (POR), Ben Player (AUS), Damian King (AUS) and Guilherme Tâmega (BRA). The APB was founded in an effort to professionalise the sport of bodyboarding and to provide an avenue for athletes to compete in a fair and professional environment. The APB is based in Australia and works closely with the International Bodyboarding Association (IBA) to ensure that bodyboarding remains an accessible and enjoyable sport. The APB is the only international bodyboarding organisation that is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The APB is responsible for the running of the World Tour, the world's premier bodyboarding tour. The World Tour is made up of four events: the APB World Tour (Australia), the APB South Pacific Tour (New Zealand), the APB North American Tour (USA) and the APB Euro Tour (Europe). The APB is also responsible for the running of the APB World Championships, the world's most prestigious bodyboarding event. The World Championships take place every two years and feature the world's best bodyboarders competing for the coveted APB World Champion title. The APB also organises the APB World Team Championships, which is an annual event that pits the best bodyboarding teams from around the world against each other in a team format. The APB also runs the APB World Junior Championships, which is an annual event that is open to bodyboarders aged 18 and under. The APB also works closely with the media to promote bodyboarding and to ensure that the sport receives the recognition it deserves. The APB also works closely with sponsors to ensure that bodyboarders are provided with the best possible equipment and resources to compete in the sport. The APB is an active member of the International Surfing Association (ISA) and works closely with the ISA to ensure that bodyboarding remains an integral part of the surfing world. The APB is also involved in several charitable initiatives, including the APB Surf Aid Program, which provides help to people in need in the developing world. The APB is managed by a Board of Directors, which is made up of professional bodyboarders from around the world. The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the direction of the organisation and making all major decisions. The APB is funded through membership fees, sponsorships and other sources. Goals The APB is committed to the development and promotion of bodyboarding worldwide.
