The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for the production of a beverage, in particular a coffee beverage, from a powdery or granular starting material, such as roasted coffee, or a soluble starting material, such as soluble coffee.
The invention further relates to a beverage-producing apparatus.
Various types of beverage-producing apparatus are known and used for the production of coffee beverages from roasted coffee or from soluble coffee.
From DE-OS 35 37 463 an apparatus for producing coffee beverages is known in which a dosage of roasted coffee is filled into a filter holder and heated water is supplied thereto. The beverage is discharged from the filter holder via a discharge conduit and is collected in a container.
From DE-OS 34 39 971 a coffee-grinding and filtering apparatus is known in which a dosage of roasted coffee is filled into a filter holder and heated water is supplied thereto. The beverage is discharged from the filter holder via a discharge conduit and is collected in a container.
From DE-OS 33 11 516 a device is known in which a dosage of roasted coffee is filled into a filter holder and heated water is supplied thereto. The beverage is discharged from the filter holder via a discharge conduit and is collected in a container.
In this prior art device, at the end of the brewing process, the filter holder is opened and the filter cake is discharged therefrom.
The object of the present invention is to provide a method and an apparatus for the production of a beverage from a powdery or granular starting material, such as roasted coffee, or from a soluble starting material, such as soluble coffee, in which the production of the beverage is improved and simplified.
This object is achieved by the method and the apparatus of the present invention.
According to the invention there is provided a method for the production of a beverage, in particular a coffee beverage, from a powdery or granular starting material, such as roasted coffee, or a soluble starting material, such as soluble coffee, which method comprises the steps of:
filling a dosage of the starting material into a filter holder;
supplying heated liquid to the filter holder;
discharging the beverage from the filter holder via a discharge conduit; and
collecting the beverage in a container;
characterised in that the filter holder is supported in a holder member which is movable relative to the filter holder between a brewing position in which the filter holder is located in a brewing station and a discharge position in which the filter holder is located in a discharge station, and in that the filter holder is opened in the discharge station and the starting material is discharged therefrom.
The method of the present invention is characterised in that the filter holder is opened in the discharge station and the starting material is discharged therefrom.
The method according to the invention thus provides the advantage that the starting material can be discharged from the filter holder in an especially simple manner.
Moreover, the method according to the invention provides the advantage that the filter holder is opened directly in the discharge station, and the starting material is discharged directly into a collection container, such as a waste container.
The method according to the invention further provides the advantage that the starting material which is discharged from the filter holder can be automatically weighed.
The method according to the invention further provides the advantage that the filter holder can be opened and the starting material can be discharged therefrom in a fully automatic manner, and the filter holder can be re-closed and can be transported back to the brewing station.

The invention further provides an apparatus for the production of a beverage, in particular a coffee beverage, from a powdery or granular starting material, such as roasted coffee, or a soluble starting material, such as soluble coffee, which apparatus comprises:
a filter holder for holding a dosage of the starting material;
means for supplying heated liquid to the filter holder;
a discharge conduit for discharging the beverage from the filter holder;
a container for collecting the beverage;
a holder member for supporting the filter holder;
means for moving the holder member relative to the filter holder between a brewing position in which the filter holder is located in a brewing station and a discharge position in which the filter holder is located in a discharge station; and
means for opening the filter holder in the discharge station and for discharging the starting material therefrom.
The apparatus of the present invention is characterised in that it comprises means for opening the filter holder in the discharge station and for discharging the starting material therefrom.
