The Kebbi State Government says it has trained 1,500 youths in various skills acquisition and empowerment programmes to boost their socio-economic status.
Alhaji Umar Namakki, the Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Investment, made the disclosure in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday while briefing newsmen on the administration’s achievements.
Namakki said that the beneficiaries were drawn from the 21 local government areas of the state.
He said that the beneficiaries were trained in vocational and entrepreneurial skills such as fish farming, hatchery production, leather works, garment making, tailoring and soap making.
Others, he said, were trained in the production of small and medium scale enterprises, crop production and dairy production.
The commissioner said that the beneficiaries were later equipped with start-up kits to enable them to start their businesses.
”The government has also trained 1,000 youths on ICT and agricultural innovations in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
”The youths were trained on agricultural innovations such as the production of organic fertilizer and the management of bee keeping.
”The training was in line with the present administration’s commitment to revive agriculture in the state,” he said.
Namakki said that the government had also provided employment to over 500 unemployed graduates through the state’s civil service.
He said that the government had engaged over 1,000 people on its public works programme, to ensure that they engaged in meaningful activities.
The commissioner said that the government had also engaged over 300 people in its ‘Kebbi on the move’ programme, to keep the environment clean and healthy.
He said that the government had also provided financial assistance to over 500 widows through its Widows Empowerment Fund, to enable them to start small scale businesses.
”The administration has also provided free medical services to over 10,000 women and children in the state.
”The government has also provided free meal to over 5,000 pupils of public primary schools in the state,” he said.
Namakki said that the administration was committed to the welfare of the people of the state and would continue to provide them with enabling environment.
He said that the government had also provided free WAEC and NECO examination forms to over 8,000 indigent students in the state.
”The administration has also provided assistance to over 1,000 students studying in various universities and higher institutions in the state and outside the state.
”The government has also provided text books to over 8,000 indigent students in the state,” he said.
Namakki said that the government had also provided financial assistance to over 1,000 people living with disabilities in the state.
He said that the government had also provided relief materials to over 10,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the state.
The commissioner said that the government had also provided free medical services to over 10,000 women and children in the state.
He said that the government had also provided free meal to over 5,000 pupils of public primary schools in the state.
