( IN THIS ISSUE) BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF E. G. STANLEY Edward G. Stanley, director of the 1979 Eugene O'Neill Conference at Hofstra University and the author of two of the articles in this issue of the Newsletter, has received degrees from the University of Utah (B.A., 1961), the University of Virginia (M.A., 1962) and the University of Iowa (Ph.D., 1971). In 1979 he was appointed professor of English and director of the Eugene O'Neill Seminar at Hofstra University. He was earlier (1977-79) an assistant professor of English at the University of Virginia. His other teaching experience includes a year as a visiting professor of American literature at Davidson College (1974-75) and two years as an instructor in English at the University of Virginia (1965-67). He has published essays on Eugene O'Neill, Thornton Wilder, Thomas Wolfe and William Faulkner in such journals as PMLA, New England Quarterly, Studies in American Fiction, and American Literary Realism. He has contributed to such anthologies as American Realism, European Perspectives and The Critical Response to Thornton Wilder. In addition, he has published reviews in The Virginia Quarterly Review, The New England Quarterly, The Sewanee Review and other journals. He is especially active in the Eugene O'Neill Society, and was its president from 1976-78. He has served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Eugene O'Neill Newsletter since its inception in 1975, and has been a regular participant in the Eugene O'Neill Conferences at Sorrento (1975), Stockholm (1977), Monte Carlo (1978) and Hofstra (1979). --Barbara Gelb
