In a long anticipated move, the San Diego Padres have placed right-handed pitcher Jake Peavy on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right elbow. In a corresponding roster move, the Padres have recalled right-handed pitcher Mike Thompson from Triple-A Portland. Peavy, who missed his last start with a sore elbow, had an MRI performed on the elbow today prior to the team's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The results of the MRI came back negative, but the Padres have decided to play it on the safe side and have placed him on the DL. Peavy is 5-3 this season with a 3.96 ERA in 13 starts. Thompson, who appeared in four games for the Padres earlier this season, is 5-5 with a 4.58 ERA in 13 starts with Portland. He will make the start tonight against the Diamondbacks in place of Peavy.
